Falcons fall to home defeat

London Falcons’ search for their first league victory since promotion to the Wimbledon and District League One continues after a 2-0 defeat to Active Sports.

Falcons XI: Alex; Mitch, Charlie, Jeff, Matt D; George (c), Baptiste, Myles; Rob N, Marshal, Stevie

Subs: Jimmy, Will

Playing on a Tooting Bec terrain that resembled a patch of the Sahara with a light drizzling of coriander across it, both sides spent most of the game struggling to get the ball down, with chances few and far between.

For the Falcons, it was Rob’s set pieces that caused the most chaos for the Active Sports’ backline, with Marshall having the Falcons’ best chance of the game when he hit the post from close range. At the other end, a swift counter attack saw the Active Sports winger slide the ball into the box, but the on-rushing striker was unable to convert.

With the game seemingly heading towards a deserved 0-0, two moments of magic turned the tide. A lovely cross-field ball from left-back to right-wing was taken down with aplomb by the attacker, whose half volley flew into the Falcons’ net. Seconds later it was two, with a fine free-kick being lofted into the top right-hand corner to make it 2-0.

Up next for the Falcons is Northern Town on Saturday 26th September as we go for our first victory of the new campaign.
