Player Profile: Conal

June 9, 2016

He's been with the club for six years, recently picked up a Player of the Year award and, in between saving penalties, takes care of his baby girl.  Our first player profile is Conal!

Key Facts:

Name: Conal Butler
Position: Goalkeeper
Year Joined: 2009
Home Town: Kingston
Favourite Team: AFC Bournemouth

Why did you join Falcons and what can you remember about your first experience with us?

I joined Falcons through a former member, Luke. For the first time ever I didn't have a team to play for as my previous one had just folded. A mutual friend put me in touch with Luke and his team were looking for a Goalkeeper. I came down for a couple of matches and just loved the atmosphere the lads had. One of my first memories of the Falcons has to be one of our many legendary away trips. We were in Edinburgh and it was sort of an initiation night as my nickname was born: The Cabbage Patch Kid (or Cabbage). Google it if you're not sure. It was also the famous night where all seven of us staying in the hostel turned up for the night out in a similar checkered shirt. Clearly a warehouse sale on somewhere!

Which professional footballer do you most resemble or admire?

Manuel Neur is easy one for me. I like to think I can run the length of the pitch and score a screamer but truth is I can barely run to the end of my penalty box (don't you mean six yard box? - Editor). Going back a few years it was David Seaman. I'm still not sure how he pulled off 'that' save against Sheffield United in the F.A Cup.

What is your favourite Falcons memory on or off the pitch?

My favourite memory has to be our tournament in Budapest. One of the best holidays I've ever had. We were rubbish regarding the football but certainly showed the other teams how to put away a few tequilas!

Worst memory?

Losing two GFSN cup finals, more so the recent one. Stupid 3G pitches!!

Most annoying team mate and why?

Kieran by far. I love this guy. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet but he has no dress sense (he went out in his gym kit after the GFSN cup final). He also supports who ever wins on a Saturday so I'm fully expecting to see his brand new Leicester City shirt at training next week!

Why should someone join Falcons?

It's the most friendly, outgoing social club I have ever been involved in. Gay, straight, bisexual, whatever you are you are always welcome. Or if you like getting pissed and playing football in cities all over the country come and join!
