Falcons share spoils with league rivals Connaught

London Falcons maintained their unbeaten start to their preseason campaign with a 2-2 draw against league rivals Connaught Old Boys.

Falcons XI: Matt H; David, Jeff, Jimmy W, Matt D; Myles, Baptiste, Marshal; Rob, Will (c), Stevie

Subs: Lee, Jimmy, Jonathan

Man of the Match: Marshal

The Falcons burst out of the blocks, immediately putting their opposition on the back foot with a high press. They were instantly rewarded when after less than five minutes they took the lead. After Matt D’s looping cross was spilled by the Connaught keeper, Marshal was rewarded for his perseverance when he leapt onto the loose ball to slot home from close range.

From there, the Falcons continued to press but were unable to double their advantage. Soon it was Connaught’s turn to apply the pressure, but despite a spell of midfield dominance, they too struggled to find that crucial final ball.

Then, on the cusp of half-time, the Falcons did indeed manage to make it 2-0. A swift midfield breakaway saw the ball reach Will’s feet just outside the box. Some neat interplay with Rob on the right wing saw Will find some space to drill the ball across the face of the goal and into the bottom corner from 18 yards.

However this lead did not last for long. Two goals in quick succession from a free-kick and a fine individual run saw Connaught level things up before the hour mark. As pre-season legs began to tire on both sides, the game stretched and both sides seemed like they could steal a winner on the counter attack, but neither were able to find that all important third goal. Following his goal and industrious midfield performance, Marshal bagged the Man of the Match award in just his second start for the Falcons. Up next is Charlton Invicta, who we last faced nearly three years ago!
