Spoils Shared at the Bec

Falcons XI: Matt H; Ed S, Jeff, Charlie, Declan, Kieran; Jimmy, Myles, George (c); Will, Stevie.

Subs: Steff, Abdul, Rob Man of the Match: Declan In their first match of 2020, the Falcons were met with blustery conditions as they faced fifth-placed Wano Rangers at Tooting Bec in a frustrating 0-0 draw. Starting brightly Falcons took control of the game from the offset, working well down the right in the first couple of minutes to cross the ball into the box for the first chance of the match. This was a theme throughout the first half with Will and Ed continually looking a threat down the right to continue creating chances which the supporting players were unable to convert. The Falcons were a constant danger at corners, coming close to converting on a couple of occasions and a speculative long range left foot attempt from CB Jeff taking a deflection to go off. Shortly after, Jeff I was my close with a nicely hit free kick from the edge of the area but the Wano Keeper gathered well. It was only toward the end of the first half and beginning of the second half that Wano proved any real threat, utilising throw ins to work their way down the flanks. However the Falcons Defence, orchestrated by MOTM Dec stood resolute throughout and never looked like they would concede. Falcons continued to apply pressure on the Wano defence at corners coming close on a couple of occasions. As the second half wore on however, the it felt like one of those days for Falcons with Will going close from a difficult shot out wide and Rob unlucky with the best chance of the match as he tried to poke the ball in from close range following a deflection off of the Wano Keeper only to have a defender slide across and block it. Although disappointed with not taking the three points they felt they deserved the Falcons put in a strong performance that they can carry into their next performance against Village Manchester in the Quarter Finals of the GFSN Cup! If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which means Soccer Special and drinks in the pub afterwards!
