Seventh Heaven for London Falcons

London Falcons got back to winning ways this weekend with an emphatic 7-0 win against London Olympia in South Wimbledon.

Falcons XI: Matt; Ed S, Jimmy, George, Jeff, Kieran; Jim P, Myles, Steff; Will, Stevie. Subs: Rob, Sam, Matt D Man of the Match: Will Goals: Stevie, Kieran, Rob, Will (x4) Against the backdrop of the Merton Park Tram Station, London were looking to get back on track after recent back-to-back defeats. It did not take long for them to take the lead, with leading marksman Stevie latching onto Will’s flick from Myles’ corner to drill the ball home at the back post.

Will turned provider again next, for what must be the leading contender for goal of the season. Switching the play from right to left, Will spotted a marauding Kieran darting down the left flank, who latched onto the pass before drilling a stunning strike into the top right hand corner from 25 yards. The goals continued to come in the second half, with Rob getting in on the action with a composed run and finish that put the game beyond Olympia. It was soon 4, with Rob’s lovely through ball finding Will, who sent his strike into the top of the net.

Midfield maestro Myles then got in on the act to help set up the Falcons’ fifth. A superb jinking run down the left flank saw Myles take on the last defender and break into the box, before sliding the ball along to Will who tapped into the open net. Will then bagged his hat-trick and the Falcons’ sixth after another superb through ball, this time from Jeff, allowed him to sprint through the Olympia backline, round the keeper and slot home with his left. The rout was concluded after a scrappy interlude in the Olympia box saw the ball land at Will’s feet, whose turn allowed him to take on his right and drive the ball into the net through the legs of a couple of defenders.

The win leaves the Falcons third in the table with two games in hand on the teams above them, with Junction Elite the next visitors to Tooting Bec on Saturday! If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which means Soccer Special and drinks in the pub afterwards!
