Stepping into the role of Club Secretary this year is shot-stopping stalwart Matt, who has been a loyal servant to the London Falcons since his big money move from Birmingham two summers ago.
Despite being between the sticks, it’s impossible to ignore Matt on the pitch, largely down to the man possessing a volume of voice matched only by Brian Blessed using a megaphone. Years as a keen dancer on the floors of many leading evening establishments (Heaven, Freedom, certain Spoons) have enhanced Matt’s shot stopping abilities, as demonstrated by his nimble reflexes at this year’s Eurogames in Rome, where his penalty heroics took us to the Division 1 final for the first time in our history.
Off the pitch, Matt is the team’s resident pop culture encyclopaedia, with his range of referencing ability stretching from niche early 90s TV to gangster rap and he can often been found at one of South West London’s many watering holes, either nursing some 2-for-1 cocktails or winning at one of the many pub quizzes the region has to offer.
1. Why did you join the Falcons?
After three trophyless years, I thought Pete deserved reminding what winning competitions felt like again.
2. What is your best memory of the Falcons on the pitch?
Saving the penalty that won us a Division 1 semi final at the 2019 Eurogames. Off the pitch I would probably any of the end of season awards nights
3. Why should somebody join the Falcons?
Because we make winning enjoyable!
4. What are your most annoying moments on and off the pitch?
On the pitch I would say fracturing my little finger and being out for an amount of time completely disproportionate to the importance of the body part. Off the pitch, it would have to be dealing with the cyber warfare Russia seems to wage against me as FB admin in the form of buxom women from midwestern America who appear extremely interested in a gay mens football team in South West London.
5. Who’s your most annoying team mate?
After last season I would have to say devoted Manchester City fan, George Coe.
