Falcons storm to pre-season win

The London Falcons continued their pre-season preparations with a battling 4-2 win against Barnes Stormers at Raynes Park.

With injuries and absences limiting the squad to just eleven players for the game, the Falcons were caught out early by a Barnes set piece routine that saw them take a 1-0 lead from a well-worked corner.

However the Falcons were quickly back into the game with some set piece magic of their own. Pete’s corner was met by Will, whose header was blocked off the line by the hands of the Barnes’ defender. Having collected a knock to head in winning the penalty, Will dusted himself off to slot home the equaliser from the spot.

However parity was short-lived as a long ball over the top caught out the Falcons’ backline and Barnes once again had the lead. But before the break, the Falcons were level once more as Stevie latched onto a great forty-yard pass out of defence from Pete to delicately lob the ball over the keeper and make it 2-2. Soon after the interval the Falcons soared into the lead thanks to another Pete assist, as his well-weighted corner was met by Kieran’s deft far-post header to edge his side in front.

Kieran then himself turned provider as his long throw into the box was met by Will, who was able to cut the ball back to debut boy Charlie, who slotted home with a lovely right-footed finish to sign off a man-of-the-match performance with a goal. The Falcons then had to battle extra hard for the remaining 20 minutes, as n injury to Will left them reduced to just 10 men. However, they were able to show the required discipline and organisation needed to see out the rest of the game and clinch a deserved win.

If you fancy joining the squad, why not come down to training at Kennington Park, where we meet every Tuesday night at 7:45pm! We play league matches on Saturday afternoons, which allow for plenty of good socials as well, as you can see below!
